A few simple adjustments can have a DRAMATIC EFFECT on how the
“fixed” setups feel to you, the driver. The adjustments within rFactor will
better match your hardware (wheel, gamepad, keyboard) & your driving
style to the setups on the server.
What IS fixed is the gear, weight distribution, tires, shocks & springs.
What is NOT fixed is open to change by you to make the car “feel” better.
The following adjustments are based on a Logitech USB Black Momo
and will work on ANY wheel that plugs directly into USB.
Speed sensitivity can be used like wedge, turning this number lower
will loosen the car, and raising the number will tighten the car.
I recommend starting somewhere between 0% and 20%
Steering sensitivity can be adjusted within your software program
for your controller as well as within rFactor, so be aware that you
can end up very confused over the conflicts between the two programs.
I have uninstalled my Logitech software and installed my wheel with just
a windows HID driver, it works just fine. I then can make make my controller
adjustments within the rFactor game itself. (k.i.s.s. principle)
If you choose to keep your controller software installed and working, just turn
ALL the settings to 100% and make your adjustments in game.

Shown below is a screenshot of the controller settings window. Notice
the circle around the presets window. When you have fine tuned your
adjustments, you need to create a preset file to SAVE and have for use
next time you run a track or Mod. You must LOAD this preset BEFORE
entering the track or you’ll be saying “Hey Dave, your setups suck, man.”

I've taken the download out for the preset files cause I didn't think
about all the other settings it was going to change (thanks Chuck).
Using my presets for all the other keystrokes was not needed.
Here instead, are screenshots that show the control tabs in the
game's control area that you can use to setup YOUR game.
They will provide you with a place to start.

Just set these three settings up in your game and save the preset
for your use, if it's one of many presets you have, you'll have to
"load" it before coming on the track along with the steering lock.
You can delete preset files under the path =
C:\Program Files\rFactor\UserData\Controller
STEERING LOCK
Steering lock in ALL fixed setups are set to the maximum 40.0 and can be adjusted
by you BEFORE entering the track. Be aware that every time the “session” changes
in the server that the steering lock reverts to the original rate of 40.0 and CAN NOT
be saved in the preset file (maybe ISI can address this issue in future releases).
So you must reset the steering lock value for every session you run.
Steering lock has recently been discovered (thanks Jerry9k) to have a somewhat
strange effect of the fixed setup. It seems to change the cars ability to “roll”
through the corners rather than slide the front tires. We all know that sliding or
skidding causes drag and tire wear and means a slower lap time. Try adjusting
the steering lock so that your pointing the front tires in the direction of travel,
thus causing them to roll, rather than slide or skid through the turns. I promise
that this seems far from real world dirt physics, but it works in the game.
Hope this helps end some of the frustration some of y'all are experiencing.
