I've been giving some thought to making setups easy
to keep track of. My problems began when the number
of tracks in my rFactor Locations folder approached 100
different folders. What I've come up with is this...
I have created new folders for each Mod I run in
C:\Program Files\rFactor\UserData\"your profile name here"\Settings.
EXAMPLE:
Big Block Modifieds
NAD Latemodels
ORR Trucks
SBS Sprints
Make folders for ALL the mods YOU run, you get the idea!
Once these folders are created, you can go through all your
track folders and copy and paste all the setups for each Mod
you run and put the .svm files into the folders you just made.
Next time you go in to run rFactor just open the folder for the
Mod your about to run and load your favorite setup for the
track you are about to enter
This method will cut down on huge lists of setups for the more
popular tracks (i.e. Stadium50)
I'm very careful about what name I give setups when I create
them or get them through the received folder during a session.
My suggestion about file names is this...
"modname_trackname_authorname" (without the quotations)
If everyone in your list of racing buddies named your setups something
like this, then if you wanted to share setups for a Mod, then you just
zip up the folder and and send it via email.
When receiving .svm files from anyone just look for the mod name and
put them into the folders you made.
I keep shortcuts on my desktop to these folders
In the future when someone sends me a zip file of setups,
I'll unzip it to my desktop temp folder and then cut 'n' paste them
into the appropriate Mod's setup folder. I'll have to rename them
if your one of those cluttered and unorganized folks
The time you save can be spent with your family, not for more laps! ;D
